If you want to learn how to program your RCA DirecTV remote, the first thing you should do is

- Begin by locating your DIRECTV receiver’s brand and model number. This can typically be found on

- Press and hold the MUTE and the SELECT keys on the remote until the green light under the DIRECTV icon flashes twice, then release both keys.

- Using the number keys on the remote, enter the 5-digit code for your receiver. If done correctly, the green light under the DIRECTV icon will flash twice.

- Aim the remote at your receiver and press the power key. This should turn the receiver off. If not, then the 5-digit code you used was not right for your remote. Pick another 5-digit code from the user’s manual and repeat steps 4 and 5.
When you find a code that works, be sure to write it down for easy reference.


If this is a universal remote that includes your TV and DVD player, as well, you can follow the same steps as above. You will move the slide switch to TV and then DVD. Then, using the codes from your manual you can program them to your remote. If one code does not work, try a different code until one does. Just remember to write them down so you don’t lose them later.
